RimuHosting recently acquired the NetValue Hosting service. As part of this transition, RimuHosting Ltd has been managing domain name registrations for .nz domains by acting as a reseller to NetValue Ltd.
Over the last few months we have been working with the NZ Domain Name Commission to apply to become a .nz registrar in our own right. This is an involved process that included a deep dive into RimuHosting’s suitability for this role. That review included things like security, DNS systems, financial stability, staff experience operating as a registrar, and legal agreements.
We are pleased to announce that the DNC has approved RimuHosting Ltd as a domain name registrar. We’re chuffed about this. Registrars have a key role in the administration of this key Internet resource. And we are proud to have been approved for this role after a rigorous vetting by the DNC.
Migrating .nz domains from the NetValue and Webaddress registrars
As a first step, our focus is on switching the backend of our MyPanel and WebAddress sites to use RimuHosting Ltd’s registrar account directly.
The DNC have a process for doing bulk .nz domain name transfers. NetValue Ltd, RimuHosting Ltd, and the DNC will be following this process to transfer the .nz domains registered under NetValue Ltd and WebAddress Ltd to RimuHosting Ltd.
The bulk transfer process requires that registrants are notified of this change. There is quite a particular format required for this notification. Fortunately, the change doesn’t require the domain name owner to do or change anything. After the change, everything works exactly like it did before. Except a whois lookup will show a different registrar. We will be sending those emails to affected .nz domain name owners shortly.
Information for .nz domain owners
We will be sending the following information in an email to .nz domain holders using NetValue Ltd/MyPanel (and WebAddress Ltd) as a registrar:
Background

We are pleased to announce that the DNC has approved RimuHosting Ltd as a domain name registrar. Consequently, the DNC, NetValue Ltd, and RimuHosting Ltd have agreed to perform a bulk transfer of .nz domains. This means your .nz domains with us will now be directly managed by RimuHosting Ltd.
